Oswalt family commits to helping K-Staters lead

Tim and Lisa Oswalt created the Oswalt Family Leadership Scholarship with a bequest in their will to support K-State juniors and seniors. "We're not in a hurry to initiate our wills, so we asked for a way to impact students now. A yearly donation was a sustainable way to help current students before the endowment starts," they explain.

Avid K-Staters, Tim's parents, brothers and sisters were inspired to pitch in. Tim's mom and dad chose to donate the annual required minimum distribution from an IRA as a direct transfer to K-State so the Oswalt Family Leadership Scholarship can be awarded today.

"When Tim told us of his plan to fund a scholarship for K-State upperclassmen and women who are active in leadership, we wanted to participate," said Bill Oswalt, Tim's father. "All four of our children were active in leadership roles while students. They each benefited from various scholarship opportunities, and we were proud that he saw the need to provide other students with the same opportunity. This connection to our alma mater is meaningful to us and the future of other Wildcat families."

Zoë Conde

Zoë Conde '19, Oswalt family scholarship recipient

Zoë Conde '19 was the first student to receive the Oswalt family's scholarship support.

"The Oswalt Family Leadership Scholarship helped me so much during my time at K-State. I was a full-time student, heavily involved with several organizations on campus and worked a part-time job to help pay for my education," said Zoë. "Having the financial help from this scholarship allowed me to get involved and give back to the school I love so much. This leadership scholarship helps students more than donors could ever imagine!"
