Creating opportunities with a legacy gift

Scholarships help students in agriculture, veterinary medicine

An estate gift is helping future veterinarians prepare for careers in animal care.

For Zeta Schippel Crowther, a Kansas native raised on a large farm, few things were more important than caring for animals and nature. Crowther ensured her priorities were reflected in her will before her death in 2012.

Her estate gift created two scholarships at Kansas State University — the Zeta Schippel Memorial Scholarship in Production Agriculture and the Zeta Schippel Memorial Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine.

"Mrs. Crowther's generosity allowed me to focus on excelling in the rigorous veterinary curriculum and expanding my education with unpaid extracurricular activities," said Jennifer Aucott, a third-year veterinary medicine student who received Crowther's scholarship.

The scholarship empowered Aucott to spend time learning in a large, fast-paced veterinary practice on the west coast last summer. It's an experience she won't soon forget when she embarks on her new career after graduation.
